Anne Peaker Centre Goodbye
Written by Bridget Edwards

Dear PAN colleagues

As you know Anne Peaker Centre trustees have made the decision to close it because they could not see a way forward for funding its work. APC closes on the 28th of Feb. It is a decision that greatly saddened and deeply disappointed me and many others.

Nevertheless I respect the view of the trustees and their need to fulfil their legal obligations in the manner they see fit.

It's been a challenging and exhilarating time working in this sector. I have met many, many talented, passionate artists; hard working civil servants, funders and ministers who have understood the importance of arts and the work we do.

I hope that your own particular efforts in championing this work goes from strength to strength and I wish you well in all your endeavours. It's been good to work with you.

Yours sincerely,
Bridget

PAN Coordinator Dr. Alan Clarke says:

Bridget at Skanderborg awarded by
FLF Chairperson Kirsten Grønnebæk

"It is with great sorrow that we heard of the recent closure of the Anne Peaker Centre for Criminal Justice. For many years it has provided invaluable encouragement to all those working in prison art in the UK. Its publications, data-base and training courses offered irreplaceable information and support concerning the wide range of arts activities affecting prisoners and ex-prisoners around the country. APC was also one of the founder partners of PAN and its Chief Executive Officer, Bridget Edwards, not only attended many of our events - she was one of the key speakers at the PAN Conference in Skanderborg last June - but was instrumental in helping us set up our European database of prison arts activities, modelled on APC's own. Both she and the APC will be sadly missed in the European prison arts scene."
